BOSTON – A Boston-based attorney has been disbarred for two recent convictions of multiple counts of rape of a child.

Former Attorney Robert Dickens Smith, of 71 Commercial Street #278, Boston, was convicted of six counts of child rape in two separate Massachusetts courts in December 2022. On Dec. 12, he plead guilty to three counts of rape of a child and on Dec. 20, he plead guilty to three counts of rape of a child and two counts of enticing a minor.

Smith was sentenced to seven to eight years incarceration in a Massachusetts state prison – to run concurrently – for each conviction, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly reported. He was given five years’ probation. He was also convicted of rape in the third degree in New York State Court. All of the convictions involved one minor female Smith met with for sex.

According to Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, in 2017, Smith was indefinitely suspended following a conviction in Clinton District Court of enticing a child under the age of 16 for the purpose of having sex.

Following his most recent convictions, Dickens submitted an affidavit of resignation to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers. During their April meeting, the board voted to recommend that the state’s Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) accept Smith’s resignation and disbar him.

The SJC disbarred Smith on April 21, 2023.

No pictures of Smith are available online and he is not listed in the state’s sex offender database.
